This huge cave in the form of a dome, is located on a high rock above the harbor, and has been continuously inhabited since the last ice age, some 18.000 years ago. It is an open type cave, and even claustrophobic person should not be feared. There are signs in Vela Luka showing the cave, but it's not easy to find it.

The town of Korcula - Cathedral of St. Mark

One of the most important landmarks of island of Korcula is Cathedral of St. Mark, from the 15th century, built in Gothic-Renaissance style. This beautiful cathedral is located on the main square of Korcula. Church has a Romanesque door designed by Bonino from Milan, with a relief showing Adam and Eve on each wing, while at the top there is the statue of St. Mark. The most important content of the cathedral is located in the interior. Renaissance ciborium above the altar was made by Marko Andric. The cathedral also holds the remains of the holy Theodore. Of great importance are also some sculptures in the Baptistery, among which are the works of famous Ivan Mestrovic. Right next to the Cathedral of St. Mark is the monastery treasury of St Mark, which contains collections of works of art, jewelry, furniture and archives.

Museum of Marco Polo

Marco Polo was one of the world's most famous passenger, first studied to become merchant, before going on an epic journey to Asia. Although commonly considered the Venetian, many claim that he was actually born in the town of Korcula. Town of Korcula recently opened a new museum which is thought to be his birthplace. Until recently, it was open to visitors only part of the house - a tower with an amazing view of the island. Although there is no actual evidence that there was born Marco Polo, Korcula is proud to present as the place of his birth, and the museum is one of those places that are worth a visit just to say you've been there.

Icon Gallery contains a unique collection of Byzantine icons dating from the 13th to 15th century, and the ceremonial parts of the 17th and 18th century. The collection is mostly collected by the Korcula sailors from the 17th and 18th centurry. Icon Gallery is located close to the Church of All Saints, which belongs to the Brotherhood of All Saints, the oldest fraternity on the island.

The town of Korcula - Land Gate

Land Gate is the main entrance to the old city center and is located near the ferry port. Built in the 13th century, it is the southern entrance to Korcula Town.

Vineyards and beaches

Once you're done with sightseeing the city of Korcula, why not visit the rest of the island? Korcula is a home to many vineyards and beautiful beaches. You can kill two birds with one stone by visiting the village of Lumbarda, located near the town of Korcula. This area is known for its wine, as much as for its rare sandy beaches. Beach "Bilin Zal" is considered one of the most beautiful in Croatia. After swimming, you can go for a glass of "Grk". This local white vine is specific to Lumbarda, and it is interesting that is not for export, so if you want to try it, you must do it in Croatia.
